Varalaru: History of Godfather

Year : 2006
Runtime : 166 Min.
Genre : Comedy, Drama, Action
Director : K. S. Ravikumar
Movie Stars : Ajith Kumar, Asin Thottumkal, Kanika Subramaniam
Country: India
Language : Tamil

A super hit blockbuster Tamil film staring Ajith and Asin in it's leading roles. Ajith playes a total of three roles each with it's own unique characteristics. Ajith was brilliant! He is equally adjusted to playing the spoiled rich son as he is to playing a false cripple, homicidal lunatic, and devoted son.

I'm glad I watched thou this was not the story I was expecting (Darn you false plot summaries). I was planning on watching a comedy about a spoiled rich kid sent to a farm village with the false thought of it being a huge brothel full of beautiful women. That is only about 30 minutes of the movie the rest is an action suspense story about a man who at first seems to be losing his mind as he commits terrible acts. Only later does the audiences realize this is not your average psychological story and is more than it seems.

Genre : Comedy, Action
Director : Trivikram Srinivas
Movie Stars : Mahesh Babu, Anushka Shetty, Prakash Raj,Sunil, Brahmanandam
Country: India
Language : Telugu

After a three year break Mahesh the baby faced prince is back with this Action Comedy. I'm a huge Mahesh fan. He's the first Telugu actor I discovered and I've loved him every since. With that said, of course I loved his performance of the cocky, arrogant, demigod Raju. Anushka delivers an less brilliant performance but still manages to win my approval.  Prakash Raj, The Godfather, is at his evillest. Have you guys also noticed that Prakash is the Godfather/Don of every movie?

The story started off good and interesting but as the film continued it became boring and a little less interesting. I don't think I would have liked this as much if Mahesh did not star in it.

Brindavanam

Runtime : 152 Min.
Genre : Action, Romance

Director : Vamsi Paidipally
Movie Stars :NTR Jr., Kajal Aggarwal,Samantha, Srihari, Prakash Raj
Country: India
Language : Telugu

I'm going to completely honest here. So all you people that are die-hard Tolly fans or NTR/ Kajal fans may just want to scroll down and look at the awesome screencaps that I have for you guys. This movie was completely annoying. Very annoying! Between the over dramatic music every single second something a little bit dramatic happened, Kajal's crying, and the over the top action scenes that make no sense I almost went insane. This is not my first Telugu movie so I am no stranger to over the top action; anyone remember Mahesh Babu taking on over 100 men and winning in Okkadu. Guess what, Okkadu is one of my favorite Telugu movies so it is not that I mind the zany  action. Brindavanam's action just didn't fit well in the movie and it was wayyyyyyy over the moon (yes more than taking on 100 men). South Indian films are dramatic. Just putting that out there. But I swear to you the film editor became too happy with the sound effects. Every single cry, laugh, hug, smile, fight, monologue, and soliloquy there was the same three dramatic sound effects playing.

I know this is a cultural thing.  In this cultural I know it is not cool, okay, or acceptable to stand up to your elder, especially when its your father and you are a female. I accept this fact but Kajal and Samantha's characters just stood by without saying a word as their friend/boyfriend just beat up unjustifiably. SPOILER! I didn't expect them to step in and stop the fight between their fathers and Krish but they could have explained what happened (the deal they made to allow Bhoomi to borrow Krish) and tell the fathers that everything Krish did was for Bhoomi only. No! They just stand by and let him die for their sins (so to speak).  You guys know I can not stand damsels in distress... not in this century.

Ajay, the cousin and antagonist, please get a new facial expression. That creeper smile that you had was just too  much and so where the Gemstone Green Freshlook contacts. They made you look like a rapist. There is not wonder why Bhoomi did not want you.

I AM NOT saying that this was a bad movie. No, the story/script was sound and very entertaining. Kajal, whom I've liked since Magadheera, was perfect for the role especially when paired with Samantha Prabhu.  Both are very beautiful actresses who will go far in this business, especially Kajal (who know you love Kajal). I didn't like NTR as much. This is the first movie I've seen of his and from this I understand that he is an okay actor. No offense to his fans, but something just doesn't sit right with me. I think Allu Ajrun could have bought a funnier (and sexier... shush I didn't say that) character. If you can look pass the dramatic music, crazy action, and crying women than based on the story alone I would recommend this movie.

IMDB: Krish (NTR) is the son of a billionaire businessman (mukesh Rishi). He has a girl friend Indu (samantha). Her friend Bhoomi (kajal) wants to pursue her higher studies and lands in trouble when her father (Prakash Raj) wants to marry her to his nephew (Ajay). Her grandfather (Kota Srinivasa Rao) convinces her dad, saying that she already likes someone in the city so her dad asks her to bring her lover home. Indu asks Krish to go as Bhoomi's Lover. Meanwhile, Bhoomi's uncle (Srihari), and her father (Prakash) live apart in two adjacent villages. The two families are feuding with each other. Krish is hated by Bhoomi's entire family and he has to overcome many things in his attempt to get everyone to love him.

Kaavalan

Year : 2011
Runtime : 152 Min.
Genre : Action, Romance
Director : Siddique
Movie Stars : Vijay, Asin, Rajkiran, Mithra Kurian, Roja Selvamani, Vadivelu
Country: India
Language : Tamil

Tamil: காவலன்
Translation: Bodyguard

The first half of the film focuses on Boominathan (Vijay) being a bodyguard for Meera (Asin). As the film progresses Meera begins calling Boomie and pretending to be his secret admirer. This admiration turns into love for Meera. At this point of the film it doesn't matter that Boomie is her bodyguard because the movie makes no reference to this fact. Boomie goes from wearing an uniform and following Meera everywhere to barely paying her any attention. If you had missed the first half of the movie you would not know that he was her bodyguard and thus would be patting your head because the title means Bodyguard. Why does this matter? Kaavalan does a complete 180 and turns into your average secret admirer romance stories when that was the not the purpose in the beginning. I sort of feel like the whole "Bodyguard" thing was just a smoke screen for something else and didn't stay true to beginning-middle-end.

The ending got me. ;D The ending was the best part because its kind of a shocker and it's that little twist that Kaavalan has been needing for a long time now. I feel like it tied everything up nicely but while leaving a little cliffhanger.

^This movie will also be remade into Telugu and Hindi^.

PLOT: Remake of Malayalam filmBodyguard, Kaavalan is about a man who becomes the bodyguard of Muthuramalingam (Rajkiran) after he receives threats from heart broken family members of a deceased girl who was involved with Muthuramaligam's son. Soon the family threatens the daughter of Muthuramlingam, Meera. Boomie becomes Meera's bodyguard and receives unknown calls from a secret admirer (Meera). Boomie falls in love with his secret admirer and the rest of the film is about Boomie growing love.

Genre : Animation, Action, Adventure
Director : Jennifer Yuh Nelson

Almost as funny as the previous Kung Fu Panda but stays true to it's comedic ways and provides another life lesson. Dreamworks makes some of the best sequels and Kung Fu Panda 2 is diffidently top of the list. If you have children take them to see this or go by yourself no matter what the age because you are sure to laugh.

IMDB: Po joins forces with a group of new kung-fu masters to take on an old enemy with a deadly new weapon.

OH NO!

Aint he cute!?
