I absolutely LOVED this movie.  It's hard to believe that only a few years ago I, in lank of better words, was not a fan of Thai films because now I'm in love with them. Is it me or do Asians make some of the best Comedies and Romances? Of course the ending had to make me mad. Gosh, I hate cliff hangers. At any rate, this is one of those brilliant non-tragic romances and a keeper for anyone's movie collection.

NOTE:
Kuan Muen Ho is the English translation of the Thai script. Kuan (Pain in the butt) Muen (Drunk) Ho (Romance). LOL!
Chunthawit Thanasewi (Dang (Dog)/ Kuan) is super cute.
Warutaya Nilakhuha (Goi) is a super home-wrecker that ruined everything!
PLOT: Hello Stranger portrays a young Thai man and woman who meet by coincidence while on vacation in South Korea. They decide to tour Korea together while keeping their names secret from each other.

Live Octopus. Umm..

Basically this is a cute story of a mismatched pair of friends with undertones of things that relate to real life. All in all, I like the movie but I was occasionally bored.

IMDB: Momoko is an ordinary girl, living an ordinary life. Ordinary, that is, if you define ordinary as wearing elaborate Lolita dresses from the Rococo period in 18th Century France. A complete fish out of water in her rural and sleepy Japanese town, where everyone buys their clothes (and everything else) at the same store and no one understands her, Momoko's life is one of sugared sweets and frilly treats. Desperate to make some money to pay for her expensive indulgence, Momoko tries selling bootleg Ver*ace and Uni*ersal Studios clothes left over from her Dad's yakuza (gangster) days. However, when punk girl and self-styled 'Yanki' Ichiko comes calling, her days as 'ordinary' are most certainly numbered... Friendship brings these two unlikely girls together.

Wow, what an extraordinary tale of an family bonded together after a terrible instant that changed their lives forever. This films blends elements of horror, human nature, comedy, and family drama together so well that it's hard to believe it's all from the same movie. This is by far the best monster movie to date. Koreans sure know how to take something as cheesy as mega monster film and turn it into a mega hit.

The story begins in 2000 when an American and Korean assistant dump dangerous chemicals down the drain and into the Han river creating a enormous creature that looks like a huge fish with legs and extra mouths. There is a bit of anti Americanism in South Korea, being that the Americans created this mega problem (side- note: the main American scientist is crossed eye and looks like a retard).

Events take a turn for the worst (well, more worse) when the giant monster takes Nam-Joo and the whole town is quarantined. The girls family believes she is dead till Gang-Du, the father, receives a call from Nam-Joo. Unable to convince the police and military that Nam is still alive the family take it into their own hands and escape quarantine and begin their search for Nam-Joo. Though the journey there is tragedy, comedy, and hope.

I give a hand to Nam- Joo's character. She was able to survive many days without food and decent amounts of water and never lose hope. Aside from putting her life in danger to save a little boy that she had no relation with till this tragic event. All in all, I appreciate Nam's strong character though-out the whole film.

The ending is quite different from the rest of the film. A lot of people did not like it because it was so slow and uninteresting unlike the rest of the film. I disagree. I think it was a nice quit wrap up to an action-packed tale.

Plot
A young girl is taken by a human-made monster and forced to survive as her family searches for her in quarantined South Korea.

Mother (Madeo)

Another great film for the super hit director Bong Joon-Ho. It explores the intense relationship between a single mother and her son as she attempts to solve a murder and prove her son innocence. The film did not blow my mind or anything but it was any interesting watch and I would recommend this to anyone.

The film opens up to a woman, the mother, dancing and waving her hands in the air in a care free manner. That made me say okay and wonder what I've gotten myself into this time, but the film quickly set in motion the murder. Yoon Do-joon's mother treats him as her baby and prize as she watches over her shy and somewhat mentally disabled son who hangs with Jin-Tae, a local 'bad seed'. Do- Joon is quiet and calm but reacts violently when called 'retard'. Wondering drunkenly in the dead of night he walks across Yoon Je-Moon, a high school girl with a secret. He calls out to her aimlessly till she turns a corner and tosses a rock at him. Do-Joon wonders away to his house. Later he is arrested by the police after Moon's body is discovered on the top of a roof. I was utterly annoyed by the 80s style police methods that were used on Do-Joon. It was quite clear that Do-Joon is not the brightest crayon in the box. Any educated person could have guessed that he was mental disabled so his confession and lack of memory should have been disregardful. I'm not saying that he should have been treated like an angel but the everyday criminal was a bit harsh.

After being charged with the crime Do-Joon is sent to jail. The mother, who remains nameless, is sure that her son is innocent and sets out to find the real murderer and free her son. In various attempts to get her son to remember the events of that faithful night The Mother finds herself in a world that she simply can't handle and forced to the breaking point of their mother-son relationship.

Plot
A mother must free her son and discover the real murderer after her mental disabled son is sent to jail.

Reincarnation (Rinne)

The story line was perfect and surprising. You will be kept on the edge of your seat and wondering what will happen next as you realize that what you think is reality is not. With that being said this is not your everyday slasher film or your Friday the 13ths and Scream. In a nutshell it's not mindless killing but has thought and dept. Though, it sticks to the usual supernatural Asian horror theme.

I originally thought the film would be more gory and violence but it's the total opposite. There is barely any blood or gore so all the faint-hearted are safe.

The whole concept of reincarnation in the film is that you are forced to repeat your previous life over and over again. After all, "Death is only the beginning." Nagisa Sugiura lands the role of a little girl murdered by her father in the hotel. Soon Nagisa realizes that the murdered girl is the one from her visions. As filming continues Nagisa progresses through the whole murder as her agent watches an old discovered film of the original murder filmed by the murderer himself. At every turn Nagisa sees the youngest victim and her eerie doll and eventually that victim's brother. Simultaneously a college student studying cryptomnesia and Yuka, a girl who had auditioned for Nagisa's role, discover that they are reincarnated victims as well and met their destined faiths.

Plot
A J-horror film about an Japanese actress having strange visions about a murder that took place over 40 years ago as she stars in the film depicting the murder and all eleven victims.

OMG this was so cute. It's the average high school love story thats been in the works for years- ugly duck met cool sexy guy and various stories, but the actors were so charming and the comedy just right that it makes the movie stand out. This isn't the type of movie to change your life or anything but I'll turn an ugly rainy day into a sunny cloud free one. I'll definitely want to watch this again and again.

Plot
Nam an uncool and unattractive girl is in love with Chon the "it" guy on campus. With the help of a book called 9 Ways To Get A Guy, Nam and her uncool friends try to make Nam stand out in a positive way in hopes of impressing Chon. She does everything from bleaching her skin, dying her hair, and being the lead in the school play Snow White.  As the school years go by Nam grows from an ugly duck to the hottest gal at school and has everything- but Chon. Will Nam ever get her dream guy?

I don't really feel like writing a summary for this movie, so I'm going to paste the one from Wikipedia with a few of my added detail because it pretty much sums of the plot of the movie in a few sentences.

 Summary
In Thailand, young Ton Chatree (Trairat) is sent to a boarding school by his father to get good grades and not tell his mother about his father about him having a affair. Once in the school, Ton feels like an outcast and misses his family and friends. His new schoolmates tell ghost stories about a boy who died in the school swimming pool and a young pregnant woman who committed suicide. The stories frighten him, thereby exacerbating Ton's difficulties adjusting to the school. However, Ton becomes close friends with another lonely boy, Vichien (Chienthaworn), who Ton later discovers is the boy who drowned, and his death repeats every night. Ton finds a way to help his friend rest in peace by seeking help from the school "weirdo", who tells him that the ghost can not move on till another ghost breaks the cycle. Ton is found later on the floor, apparently, taken some kind of liquid that would just knock him out but not kill him. I'm not sure what the liquid was because my version of the movie did not have English subtitles over the bottle to translate the Thai writing. The boys move Ton's body over to the pool and wait. The scene flashes back to Vichien's death, only this time Ton is there to save him. The scene changes once again and now Ton and Vichien are walking down a road together talking about a girl. Ton gets ahead of Vichien while walking and looks back to hear Vichien say he has to go now. Ton wakes up in the present with the group of boys around him and Miss Pranee running to him.

At the same time, Ms. Pranee (Sukapatana), the school administrator, is deeply troubled by Vichien's death because she believes incorrectly that Vichien committed suicide and that it was partly her fault. At the end of the movie, Ton tells Pranee the truth, that Vichien's death was an accident and that Pranee should not blame herself. Ton and the boys that bullied him and told him the ghost stories are now friends and the troubles between Ton and his dad are resolved.

Vichien's Death  And Why He Can't Move On
The wiki summary doesn't go into detail on Vichien's death so I'll explain it for you. The boys of the school were swimming all day. Another boy, jokingly begins to call for help and bob in and out of the water yelling. All the boys that were not in the pool quickly jump in to aid the falsely drowning boy. The students become distressed when they can not find the 'drowning' boy after he goes under water. After a few seconds he pops back up and begins laughing about how scared everyone became. The students slash him with water and say that it's almost 6 o'clock, dinner time. As everyone gets out of the pool Vichien remains and starts to call for help. The other students believe that he is joking and stand around the pool as Vichien is drowning. Hungary, the boys leave the pool for dinner. Vichien goes under the water and doesn't come back up. Hours later at bedtime one of the boys comes to Miss Pranee's office to inform her that Vichien has not returned to the dorm. Miss Pranee imediately rushes to the pool where she finds Vichien's body floating in the water.

The part that really bugs me about this film in the fact that no one but Miss Pranee felt bad in anyway for Vichien. Miss Pranee had nothing to do with Vitchien dieing, but all the students that sat by and watched did and yet they felt no remorse for what they did. They even made of a ghost story about him, saying that he killed himself. Granted that most of the boys that were at the school with Ton arrived were almost as new as he was, but there were a few that had been there when Vichien died.

According to some web searches that I did Vichien couldn't move on to the after life because the Thai people believe that if someone dies in usually ways that are not of natural causes, such as drowning, they wouldn't be able to move on till the cycle is broken.

Review
Thai horror film Dek Hor, or Dorm/ My School, seemed more like a suspense and thriller than horror to me. I wasn't scared during the whole movie. I enjoyed it quite a bit but there were some moments that bored me. It a good suspense film. I would recommend it to anyone.
